Plumbing is not a rocket science, in fact, it is something that everybody should know how to do and have no problem with it.
Well, this is what I was thinking before beginning the marvellous quest of replacing two sinks at home.
Perhaps if you have new pipes at your home – it might be a little bit easier, but this is not the case with me.
Now that I look at the process, from the distance of time (an hour ago) I feel like I have grown and have become somewhat a professional about it.
My opinion about the whole process is that Oakum is a thing sent from hell to torture your soul and crush all your hopes.
After a lot of struggle with the oakum, I found out the glory of Teflon tape isolation, and this is the thing that saved my sanity in the end and successfully finished the project that I had begun.
The other evil thing is gaskets… it is so evil that I don’t want to type or speak about it.
I guess it is my fault – because of over-tightening – I ruined a lot of perfectly normal gaskets.
Hear a wisedom:
If it comes to plumbing, don’t do it yourself! There are specialists that have decided to to do this for life – better pay them, than waste your nerves and do patchworks.
